What It Means to be a Certified Specialist

January 29, 2016

california state barThe California State Bar, Board of Legal Specialization has established Certified Specialist designations to encourage deeper study into selected fields of law, and to allow the public a method for identifying attorneys who have mastered these fields. Certified Specialists are required to have years of successful experience with comprehensive testing that demonstrates their expertise in their areas of focus such as: bankruptcy law, criminal law, family law, immigration law, taxation law and others.

I chose to become a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust & Probate Law in 1998, because of my interest in this field and my desire to provide thorough services and protection to every client.

To earn my Certified Specialist designation, I have:
     ~ Successfully passed a comprehensive full-day written examination in estate planning,      trust, and probate law administered by the California State Board of Legal      Specialization;
     ~ Demonstrated a high level of expertise and requisite number of years experience in      this specialty area;
     ~ Fulfilled mandated ongoing education requirements in this field;
     ~ Been favorably evaluated by other attorneys and judges familiar with estate planning,      trust, and probate work.

I am uniquely qualified to create estate plans designed to minimize estate, gift, and income taxes, as well as provide assistance with probate and trust administrations.

Our State Bar created this specialization certification in estate planning, trust, and probate because it is a complex and changing area of law that demands asserted experience and continued study. Of the approximately 280 attorneys in Nevada County, fewer than 10 have successfully earned this special designation.
